• Skin Color: Light tan/buff with a smooth to slightly netted texture, shallow eyes
• Ease of Growing: Very Easy one of the most forgiving varieties
• Flesh Color: Creamy white
• Maturity: Mid-season (90110 days)
• Yield: Very High, 1 lb planted will typically result in 1020 lb harvested, consistently produces large, uniform tubers
• Planting Rate: Usually 58 seed pieces per lb, space 9″ to 12″ apart in row
• Cooking Type: Fairly floury (mealy), excellent for baking, frying, and chipping; also very good boiled or mashed
• Disease Resistances: Resistant to late blight (foliage and tuber), PVA, and common scab; moderately resistant to early blight, black leg, and PVY; susceptible to potato wart and golden nematode in some regions

• Origin: Developed by the USDA and Maine Agricultural Experiment Station in Presque Isle, Maine
• Breeding: Released in 1948 from a cross between Chippewa and Katahdin
• Introduction: Named after Maines Kennebec River, it quickly became the dominant variety in the Northeast and Midwest for fresh market, chipping, and processing due to its reliability and storability
